clients not updating
Hello, new member here. I have just installed SCE 2007 and none of my clients are reporting updates status. If I run the WSUS Client Diag this is the output:

Any ideas what the error is saying? First it says "Connection to server: PASS" and then "A connection to the server could not be established". I dont know why this is so hard to get working. I set up a WSUS server on my network a year ago and it was a snap. I have taken that server down since I started this one up. I changed the WSUS GPO on my DC (DC is 2000 Server) to point to the SCE server. I am at a loss as to what to do next to try and get this working. Any help appreciated.

- It seems to be working now, my personal workstation has updated and WSUS sees it now. I still get the same error if I run the Client Diag tool on my workstation though. I guess I wont worry about it.
I can pull up the URL you referenced above, this is the result:

- Hi,
For this problem, Please check windowsupdate.log on problematic clients to see if any error prompt. Also, check if you can browser https://<SCEserverFQDN>:8531/simpleauthwebservice/simpleauth.asmx correctly from clients.
HTH.

Glad to hear you problem has been resolved.

The posted Client Diagnostic Tool results suggest two items of concern in your scenario:
1. You've not yet updated your WSUS to Service Pack 2 (as evidenced by the v7.2 WUAgent).
2. You've configured your server to use SSL (https://FQDN:8531), but the client is reporting a 0x80072efd (CANNOT CONNECT) error code on the selfupdate test, suggesting that:
a. SSL is improperly configured on the Default Web Site
b. The client cannot resolve your "FQDN".
c. The client is unable to access a webserver at the IP Address returned by DNS for your "FQDN".
d. The Default Web Site is not running.
Unfortunately, Jie-Feng Ren's test of the provided URL is only partially conclusive as to this scenario. While it establishes that the WSUS Administration website is properly configured for SSL on the SimpleAuth v-dir, it misses the point that the Client Diagnostic Tool is actually testing the /selfupdate v-dir on the Default Web Site (port 80) with a non-SSL connection -- so the correct URL to have tested would be:
http://FQDN/selfupdate/iuident.cab
which should return a File Open/Save dialog if the web server is properly configured.
