    I have Intel Machine with OS Windows 7 64 Bit installed on it and I want to make my D drive as Primary drive on it. Can anyone help me how to do this?

    What exactly do you mean exactly?

    If you want to make it THE primary partition on your computer you need to reinstall Windows to D:

    If you want to make it A primary partition because it is now an extended/logical partition then you need to back up everything on it, delete it and create a primary partition in it's place.

    You have to go into the BIOS and from there you can switch which hard disk is your primary.

    If you make D: your primary though that means it will boot from D: (you have to install Windows on D: after that)

    Henk, if you change your primary disk in BIOS then you will make another disk C:, not switch C: to D:. Of course, this may also be a way to go, but I do not know Nouman's reason for wanting D: to be primary.

    Thanks Eirik & Henk for your reply.

    I had tried making D drive primary by installing windows on D drive, but after that system is treating D drive as C, which means D is not primary drive.

    In-fact, what I really want to achieve is to test the behavior of my application if primary drive is D, that application always install on Primary Drive (which is currently C).

    Can you please guide me how to make D as Primary drive?
    I am not getting it from previous replies.

    Hi ,

     

    Why did you try to change the primary partition to D?

     

    I would like to confirm whether you want to change the default installation path C:\ProgramFiles to D:\ProgramFiles and make the D drive as the system partition. Or just change the volume letter of Primary Partition to letter D.

     

    Each physical drive can have up to four primary partitions or alternatively three primary partitions and an extended partition.

     

    If the second one, you can take the following steps to change the volume letter of Primary Partition to letter D. 

     

    1.You may backup all the files on the drive D first.

    2.Click Start, type Disk Management in the Start Search box, click Create and format hard disk partitions to open the Disk Management.

    3.If there is already the D: existed. Right click Volume D: and tick Delete Volume to Delete volume D.

    4.Right click another Primary Partition and choose change Drive Letter and Paths for the Primary Partition X: to D:.

    Note:The Primary Partition C: cannot be changed.
