    When i try to create a new volume in my unallocated space using windows disk manager it shows a message as "The operation youselected will convert the selected basic diskto dynamic disk. If you convert the disk to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk (except the current boot volume).Are you sure you want to continue?

    When i give yes it displays an error message "Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system or server configuration. Dynamic disks are not supported on clusters".

    What should i do?

    I'm using Windows 7 Basic OS on my laptop.

    Hi,

    May I know how many partitions you have made? Windows do not allow create any partitions if you set up 4 primary partitions on basic disk.

    If you want to create more than 4 partitions, I suggest 3 primary partitions and an extend partition with logical drives.

    Hi,

    Below is an image depicting the problem i'm facing. The message shown appears when i try to create a new volume of the unallocated space.

    I even tried extend option on all available drives. but its greyed out.

    What should i do? please advice...

    Hi,

    It seems you have created 4 primary partitions already.

    Please back up the data on D drive to other drive or external hard drive, then delete D volume and delete partition. After that, you will only have 3 primary partitions. Right click Unallocated content, select New Simple Volume and type the size you want to create (such as 10240). It will create Extend partition with logical drive.

    You got that message because there are already four primary partitions on the basic disk and Windows allows only four primary partitions or three primary partitions and one extended partition on the basic disk. but on the dynamic disk, it allows create more volumes.

    considering the convenience, you could directly use the reliable partition software to create partition instead of formatting hard drive or backup. Aomei Partition Assistant Home Edition 4.0 could assist you to create more partitions as you wish even there are already four primary partitions, it is compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, XP, Vista, 2000 Professional 32 & 64 bit. http://www.extend-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html
