Windows update - Code 8024402F - Windows update encountered an unknown error

Running Windows 7 Professional with SP1. When checking for updates I get the above error. I've reset the IE settings, I don't have proxy server setup.
I've tried running MicrosoftFixit50202.msiand MicrosoftFixit.wu.MATSKB.Run.exe which didnt help.

Problem solved - there was a transparent proxy server that was causing problems.
Same here. After turning off the transparent proxy, Windows Update is working again.
