I'm not sure what's going on with my system, but I have Windows 7(64-bit), Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode all installed.  When I try to boot up Windows XP mode, I get the error message saying that my BIOS needs to be changed to allow hardware-assisted virtualization.  The strange thing is that I DO have it enabled.  In fact, I went through the steps given to change my BIOS even though it didn't really need to be done...but still no luck.  I have the latest BIOS version installed and am at a loss as to what's going on.  If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

There should be an option to enable the "execute disable bit" in your BIOS, along with the hardware virtualization.

Have you done a complete power down on the system after enabling the hardware virtualization in the BIOS?  Ideally, try shutting down and pulling the power cord and let the computer sit for a couple minutes to let the "cached" BIOS settings fade, then power on and the BIOS should be reloaded from the saved values.

Who is the manufacturer of your machine and motherboard? What does the Hardware Assisted Virtualization utility http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0EE2A17F-8538-4619-8D1C-05D27E11ADB2&displaylang=en say?

The computer I made myself almost a year ago...the motherboard is made by Asus.  As for the AVU, it says that "Hardware-assisted virtualization is not enabled on this computer"...even though it is.  I was thinking it had something to do with VMWare that I installed on my computer for school, but I disabled as much as I could and it still doesn't work.

If your ASUS has resumed from hibernation or sleep, hardware assisted virtualization probably is not enabled. ASUS bioses from even a relatively short time ago have a flaw in that they do not properly report hardware assisted virtualization after resuming. I'm using an ASUS bios that has not been released to the public.

There have been conflicts between Virtual PC and VMware, but I think those were mostly resolved in the RTM version of VPC - but I personally haven't tried having both installed.

Based on what you've posted so far, it could either be a conflict with VMware or a problem with your bios. The next troubleshooting step I recommend is to fully uninstall VMware, reboot, try VPC again. If you still have a problem, check your execute disable bit. If it is enabled, disable it. If that doesn't resolve your problem, open a support incident with ASUS.

I've fully uninstalled VMWare from my computer and that didn't work.  I'm not sure what you mean by "execute disable bit".  Although it looks like it'll be a problem with my motherboard.

Windows VPC and VMWare Workstation can co-exist on the same system, but you can't run them concurrently.  In fact, VirtualBox, WinVPC, VMWare Workstation, VMWare Player, and Parallels 4 Desktop can all be installed on the same system without issue.
