Increasing the amount of memory for Virtualization Win XP
- I need to increase the amount of memory allocated to Virt. Win XP right now there is 256mb but some of my older application need more memory to run. When I go to adjust the memory size the box is grayed out and does not allow it to be adjusted. Is is possible to allocate more memory? And if so how do you do it? Thanks so much for the help.

- Simpler way is to change Close setting for VM.
Choose always prompt for action. When you close VM, you can shutdown it from close dialog box.
Then again change setting for RAM

- Hello, you need to shutdown the virtual machine before you can adjust the RAM it has allocated. When just closing the virtual machine window it only hibernates.
To shutdown do the following.
1. Press Win Key + R (or go to Start > Run)
2. type cmd and hit Enter
3. type "shutdown -s -t 0" without " and hit Enter*
*-s will shutdown your computer and -t 0 will do it immediately, without -t 0 it will wait 30 seconds before shutdown begins
WARNING: Make sure there are no unsaved files open!
When you have completed these steps, change the RAM and start the virtual machine again.- Contrassegnato come rispostaVinod AtalMSFT, Moderatorevenerdì 15 maggio 2009 17.32

- Thank you! that was the better way to shut down the VM. then it was easy to change the amount of memory by right clicking on the application icon and selecting settings and memory.
