Hi, what is the proper procedure on installing printer drivers on a print cluster? Do I install the drivers on each node in the cluster? The print cluster step by step guide from Microsoft mentioned that a share storage needs to be created for the print spooler/driver files. If that is the case, why would I need to install drivers for individual node? Also, the document didn't mention how to change the default driver folder location to the share storage. Should it be done in the print management console?

    Any advice would be appreciated

Print Management console.  Ensure you access that console from Failover Cluster Manager so you are in the correct context.

Do you mean I have to install the driver for both print servers? The MS step by step guide for configuring a two print server failover cluster in Windows server 2008 mentioned creating a share storage volume for the print driver. If the driver location is being shared. Do I need still need to install driver for each server?

The driver will be placed on the shared storage so it will be available to any node in the cluster.

OK, one additional item....drivers are specific to Print Server isntances.  So if you have 2 HA Print Servers in the same cluster, they will each need their own dedicated  storage and will each support the drivers for their defined printers.  So, if you have the same printer associated with each Print Server, yes, you will need to isntall the drivers multiple times.....we do not employ a Single Isntance Store (SIS) concept in this case....sorry.

Thanks for the clarification. Don't know why the step by step guide mentioning about creating a share storage for the printer driver then.

So basically, I have to configure each print server including, drivers, share printers, ports, etc, separately in a failover cluster configuration, right?

In term of DNS, what record I have to create on the DNS server for the cluster if I am not using a Windows DNS server but BIND which is not configured to support DDNS?

    Thanks

As part of creating an HA Print Server you will create a Client Access Point (CAP) which will include a NetBIOS name and an IP address.  This is the information you will need for the A-records in the DNS server.
