Hello Friends,

Well I need some help to get this problem sort out as I have been screwed from last 2 days.

I have installed Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 Bit Server. We have 6 WSUS Server 1 as an Up-Stream and 5 as an Down-Stream Server in 5 different Remote Location. The problem what am I facing is, I am un-able to launch the Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Console of the Up-Stream Server. When I try to connect the Microsoft Windows Server Update Services through the MMC Console I get a pop up as below.

After entering the Server name if I try to connect the Microsoft Windows Server Update Services I get the below error.

Anyone has any idea about this Error or Problem.

Your Reply will be highly Appreciated.

Seriously! Why did you install the 'SP1' version of the product?
I get the below error.

Well, it means exactly what it says. The account you are logged onto on that Windows system does not have permissions to access the WSUS server! Give it the correct permissions. The dialog tells you what they are!

Hello Lawrence,

Thank you for Replying,

Well I have already added the User ID in WSUS Administrators and WSUS Reporters Group but still I am facing the Problem.

Previously everything was working fine I don’t know suddenly what went wrong because which it starting giving me this problem. SP1 was installed from the start only, there is nothing which I have done additional.

Even I know the Error points to the Permissions, but is there something i need to to do additional in that.

Totally expected if WSUS is not installed on port 8530.

What else is installed on this WSUS server. How, exactly, did you install WSUS?

Is this a Windows Server 2008 *RTM* server or a Windows Server 2008 *SP2* server?

What happens when you navigate into the Roles node of Server Manager?

And we're still lacking a response to the question: Why did you install WSUS v3 Service Pack 1?

Hello Lawrence,

Well on the WSUS Server we also have DHCP Roles Installed as well as IIS for WSUS.

We have Installed the WSUS from the Server Manager --> Roles.

The Server is Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with SP2.

When I navigate to the Roles I get the below mention view.

And the answer to the Last Question is that the WSUS SP1 has been Installed at the time of Implementation and I was not the one who has configured and Installed, so i don't know about it.

There is one more thing which can Help you to identify this Problem is that I get the below mention Error and Warning message.

Then my suggestion is that you uninstall this WSUS SP1 installation (use the Sticky Post at the top of this forum if needed), ensure that your Win2008 SP2 system is fully patched, and then install WSUS v3 SP2 and KB2720211.

Hello Lawrence,

As suggested I have Un-Installed WSUS 3.0 SP1 from the WSUS Server.

While Un-Installing the WSUS 3.0 SP1 I got a Option as below.

I Selected all the Option and proceeded by Un-Installing and the Un-Install process got Completed Successfully. After this I checked the Database of WSUS the .mdf file but it was all cleaned up as I had selected the above Option. :-(

After this I planned to Install WSUS SP2 and KB2720211.

I have Installed both the above Application on the WSUS Server successfully without any Error, but I have been prompt to reconfigured the WSUS Server as I have Removed the WSUS Database, Log file and the Downloaded Updates.

Any idea what shall I do in this case, shall I Restore the .mdf, Log and the Downloaded Update from the Old Backup so that I don't have to Re-Configure it again.

Good. It was necessary. You cannot reuse your 'SP1' database.

You should configure the server.
