Where can I find documentation which list the BPOS Exchange Online Policy details
- Dear community,
I am wondering where I can find a document (online or download) where I can look up information regarding the service policy.
Background:
While being on premise, customers can create their own policy (e.g. Mailbox limit, blocked file types, max size attachements, etc.). While some parameters are obviously not configurable within BPOS, some are.
Situation:
In order to govern the customer and in order to allow the customer to communicate the "new BPOS" policy down to it's end users I am looking for a document which allows me to get a list together which list all the variables (configurable or not).
Example:
- Blocked File Types: I can't find anywhere a note about blocked file types. Are blocked files types configurable by the customer/partner or are filetypes set by BPOS, or can certain filetypes be enabled.
- Archiving: What are the policies for the archiving solution, what can be tweaked to match a current archiving policy on premise, what is set instone.
With best regards
Thomas
P.S.: I should say that I looked at the online documentation already: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/Technet/en-us/MSOnline/bpos/index.html
as well as the MSOnline team blog and lastest release notes.

We currently do not have a list of blocked file types. However, I have submitted a request to get this information available to our customers.

- I'll take a stab at this since no one else has responded. I don't think a document exists for what you are looking for. The Exchange Online service description probably is the closest match, but that only contains very basic information such as message size limits. Have you checked out www.quickstartonlineservices.com? It contains some information, check out the WIKI section, but not a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of the time you have to contact Microsoft to see if it's something support can take care of. In your example of blocked file types, I know that isn't configurable from past experience. Since it is a multitenant system, making a change to allowed file types, would impact all clients so it can't be done. Another common one, is a customized OWA log in page, which also can't be done, because it would impact all clients. If it's a setting that can be implemented on an individual account, such as maybe setting 1 service account's password to never expire, there is a chance that support will make that change for you, but you'd have to ask to make sure.
Wish I had a better answer,
Chad I don't think a document exists for what you are looking for. The Exchange Online service description probably is the closest match, but that only contains very basic information... In your example of blocked file types, I know that isn't configurable from past experience.
To piggy-back on Chad's reply, we would like to point out to the Online Services team that even when a setting or attribute is NOT configurable, it would be nice to have easy-to-find access to authoritative specifications (in this case, a list of the blocked file types). We currently do not have a list of blocked file types. However, I have submitted a request to get this information available to our customers.

Dear all (especially MS BPOS people)
I am really sorry, but I am stunned reading these responses ... Really, how come that a simple comparision list isn't available for customers not even partners.
Anyway, here is what we were told from a blocked file type list:These are the files that are blocked by BPOS as a whole (Includes Forefront for Exchange, and FOSE filtering)
