Windows 7 rc user account name problem
- I figure out this very funny and painful problem in windows 7 rc. Windows 7 rc does not support special character on user account name. You can make user account with special character but can't login on that account. But if you make a account without any special character and rename it with having some special character then it'll be ok. This is completely a new problem in RC. It didn't exist in the beta or previous version of windows.

So i cant login to my account. I thought rc doesn't support blank password. I reinstalled rc and this time same user name with password. Still same problem. Don't you think installing same thing 3 times in a difference of 5 minutes isn't painful.
- That's painful, I agree. But you didn't tell this background before. You shouldn't enter special characters in a user name, as you never will know what the consequences are. That's a RC, maybe they left some secrets in for debugging or other purposes or incidentially.
You may also be helped by this advice from another thread:
(If you've chosen a wrong name during installation...) "Create a new user account for yourself. Once that's done, delete the old account. The old account is hardwired to the previous owners account name - you can't change that. But you can change the name that Windows displays for that account (which is what you did when you renamed it to your name)."

There's a simple explanation as to why it works the way you described it. When you create an account - let's call it "FRED" - it creates a unique identifier of FRED. If you rename it TOM (as an example), the unique identiifier for that account is still FRED. The display name is changed, but the underlying User ID for the account hasn't changed at all.
If you create an account in Windows and delete it, you'll get a warning that reads:
"Each user account has a unique identifier in addition to their user name. Deleting a user account deletes this identifier and it cannot be restored, even if you create a new account with the same name. This can prevent the user from accessing resources they currently have permission to access."
This was, no doubt, done to simplify account management when a name changes - marriage, conversion to another religion, divorce, etc...That's painful, I agree. yap i know that. but if previous version of windows support this feature what's the problem with RC.i don't understand what is the advantage. why it'll be simple to manage user account.- I feel your pain Rainbow.
I installed Windows and accidentally pressed the accent key (`) when typing my username.
I didn't even think this was a special character, but it caused all sorts of problems.
It's more painful than funny.
- I tried to add a user with the name Maja. Windows 7 thinks there is some special character in that name aswell. Tried several times cause I thought I'd misstyped the name, but I got the same result. Added a B_ before (B_Maja) and that name passed the special character check.
- Windows provides tips for some things and it would be nice if one was telling me the requirements for a password below or next to where I enter it.
