Did 2 clean installs of Win 7 same problem.   Sometime after operation for unknown reason the DVD is no longer recognized and Device mgr is unable to update driver and recommends contacting manufacturer.   Same problem with Toshiba and Hitachi drives.  Unable to determine when or why driver is lost.

    RFAB,

Are you saying that the install completed and that you were able to use dvd for some period of time, then the driver was gone? If that is the case, a simple repair from the dvd should take care of it. Assuming original download was from MS.

If you're running into an error message during install, do a search on this site...there have been many posts regarding that issue.

    Thanks, but still having problems.
I did another clean install of Win7 and the DVD drive peformed while installing several programs.  I added my other two drives one with Vista and XP and that didn't seem to affect the DVD drive.  Then the last thing I can recall adding into the mix was my external drive and doing some work with Yahoo favorites and rechecked and the driver was no longer working.  Device mgr reported the driver missing or corrupt.  I then uninstalled the drive and rebooted and the system tried to install the driver but failed with same reason.

Seems like I may have solved the problem.  I downloaded another copy of WIN 7 RC and created a new DVD.  So far so good.

    RFAB,

    That's great news!

Sometimes I think a lot of people don't really understand just how much data is being written onto that dvd and so there is so much room for errors to occur during the process. I'm sure that now that you have it running as expected you won't see many more problems
