Brand New windows 2003 server with AD installation
- All,
I am trying to ask myself the right questions as i am about to setup a brand new company and want to implement server 2003 with AD.
What I need is to ask my self the right questions for the planning process. For example, what address range am i going to use? What am i going to call my domain? What Raid array to use? IS there going to be only one forest. etc.
Does anyone have a getting started checklist or something similar that I could use to make sure i have covered all topics. I am familiar with server 2003 but have never setup a network from scratch that needs all these services.
Really appreciate any advice. I have been refered to the "Planning an Active Directory Deployment Project" but this does not give me the questions that i need answered.
Regards,
Kevin

- Kevin - start by reviewing all relevant info available at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/reskit/deploykit.mspx
My recommendation would be to reconsider the OS version and look into implementing Windows Server 2008/2008R2 based AD instead...

Marcin - I already have a server 2003 licence and am ready for deployment.
Thanks, - I find Windows 2003 online help an adequate starting point.
If the deployment guide doesn't give you the answers - do you have any specific questions?
-= F1 is the Key =- - Well it was the questions that I need a prompting to me.
Obviously I know I am going to come up with a Domain name, IP address range but what I wanted was almost like a cue card so I know I have planned my server 2003 network correctly. For instance it says on the logical structure page of technet that I will have to designs for domains, DNS and my organisational units.
what I need is almost like a checklist.
for example:
1. How many users on your domain
2. How many sites will you have?
3. Name of your Domain
4. Address Range
If you know of such a thing, this would be a great help. I am trawling through the online documentation that Marcin gave me. My IT director has given me this task so would like to prove myself and plan correctly as he wants to see the plan before I implement anything?
Thanks again,
Kevin - Hello,
check "Active Directory Domain Services.zip" in:

I am also with Marcin to go for Windows server 2008 R2.
