Hi, we had a VM which is the Database server for our organization, it was a production server. It had 3 different snapshot files, recently i saw all the VM's are in paused state and i found vm's are running out of space, here i took a wrong decision by deleting the top Parent snapshot file leaving the child snapshot untouched, i didn't even know that it required a merge process and when i restarted the VM it displayed this error message
Since this is the production machine all programmers are really mad at me. Please help to solve the issue.
I even tried to export the virtual machine to a new location and tried to import it via hyper v manager - actions - import virtual machine then it displayed this error
Thanks and Regards Mohamed

Hi,
How did you delete the top parent snapshot file? Did you delete the .avhd file directly from the folder?

Thanks and Regards Mohamed

Hi!
Since the parent avhd file is missing, you can not expect to retrieve complete files from your current avhd file, only the amendments applied to them.
The only state you can run this VM in, is if there exists earlier snapshots or by using the base vhd if that's what your deleted avhd file was based on.
I've read your other posts following this and this same principle applies there also. You can not substitute the missing avhd file.
If you've taken backups of the VM before you deleted the snapshot, your best chances would be there. Otherwise, if you haven't been writing new files to the VM physical drive location on the host after deleting, there is a small chance that you're able to recover the deleted file using recovery software.
