Configuring E-Mail alert
- Hi people!
First of all, i'm not another guy asking for the same thing... this time is quite different. I don't have an email server in the enterprise so i have to rely on my external ISP e-mail server. ¿Is there a way to configure e-mail alerting in FCS with Authentication-Required SMTP servers? I couldn't find the option :(

Hi,
Thank you for your update.
I did some research regarding “authentication” option. And there is no option in MON to configure the authentication to send alerts. Meanwhile, I’d like to confirm why do you configure that in MOM. And I will follow this issue to see if there is another way to achieve your goal.

Thank you for your post.
According to your description, I understand that you want to configure E-Mail notifications.
To achieve your goal, you may perform the following steps:
1. Open MOM Administrator Console
[Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 -> Administrator Console]
2. Open the Administration container and click the Global settings tab.
3. Click on E-Mail Server and configure your e-mail server properties
[server name, return address, Charset for alert mail and Mail server port]
4. Click OK and go back to the administrator console. now go to Management Packs
[Notifications and right click "Operators" and choose "Create Operator" from the drop-down list]
5. Configure Operator Properties
[Name, SMTP Address, Pager address and external command related to that operator - can be used for external SMS programs]
6. Click finish and open the Management Packs
[Notifications -> Notification groups container and right click the Client Security Notification Group and click properties. add all the operators you wish to be notified by FCS alerts and click OK.

My problem is that my SMTP server requires authentication and i couldn't find the option in MOM to configure the authentication to send alerts.

Sorry for not post in quite a while.. i've been ____-like busy at work.
Well... the thing with authentication is that i really need to send e-mail alerts to my cellphone and my personal email acc, but i don't know how to achieve this besides deploying an Exhcange server (which is impossible right now). I only know a few Authentication-Based external SMTP servers, and a few command-line tools like Postie.

I read your posting here today, because I was searching for another solution.
But I think I have an solution for you (if is not too late).
You can install the Microsoft SMTP Service on your Server (it is a component inside Windows 2003 Server and its free).
You can find this component under "Add or Remove Programs" -> "Add/Remove Windows Components" and then Application Server\IIS\SMTP Service.
If you have installed the SMTP Service you will find it inside your Computer Management Console (Services and Applications -> IIS -> Default SMTP Virtual Server).
Inside the properties of "Default SMTP Virtual Server" you find a "Delivery" register card. There you can set the outbound security.
If you use this SMTP Service as your Forefront relay station, you can send mails to your ISP e-mail server.
