질문 Forefront requiring 4GB?

    Hi All,

I'm a newb to ForeFront Client Security and have firstly set up WSUS 3.0 on my server with the intention of now setting up ForeFront. I've installed all the prerequisites, including SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition SP1 and when I go through the installation procedure, everything works successfully, with the exception of an error stating I don't have enough RAM. I currently have 1.5GB RAM on the machine and one processor; on the Installation CD it says minimum 2GB RAM, but in the log files of the installation, the only error shows that I require a minimum of 4GB RAM and 2 processors... is this true? and if not, is there any way I can make do with 1.5GB, or perhaps 2GB RAM?

Thanks very much for your help,

    Regards,
    Crash

    Hi!

Without 1 GB of RAM Forefront Client Security won't even install. You should not get an Error if you have 1.5 GB of RAM, only a warning. The recommendation is 4 GB of RAM (This also depends on the amount of clients you plan to manage).
When you run setup and get to the point when you see the Error, Highlight the error line itself (click on it) and read at the bottom of the dialog box (hope i you understand what i mean) to see what error you get. I'm guessing that the amount of RAM is not the actual problem, but some other prereq that is not fullfilled.

Let me know if this helps

    Hi Johan,

Thanks very much for your quick and efficient reply! I completely understood what you meant; and yesterday when I ran the installation, I saved the log file which I'm attaching here.

I think I may have mis-read the RAM, and it looks as though we have 1GB RAM rather than 1.5. This server is actually being run as a Virtual Server using VMRC, so giving it more RAM shouldn't be a problem, but the log shows that 2 processors are required.. that I'm not sure is possible within VMRC.. although it could be. It's also showing more disk space required I think.. it's showing as 21GB, I think I have 20GB on it.. I guess I could increase that disk space, considering that is the only ERROR, rather than the other WARNINGS

Either way, the log file is attached, and maybe you'd be able to spot something, because it seems odd to me that 4GB would be required, rather than recommended, so I agree with you that it is probably another prerequisite that I'm missing.

    Thanks very much again,

Thats your problem.. Warnings are the ones that you can keep on going with the install... errors on the other hand you cannot ignore.

Yepp, Kurt is right. You need more disk space.

When you run setup, it wil prompt you for size of the Reporting db and collection db. depending on what you specify here you need to allocate disk.
Before you set the db sizes, read the "perf_Scalability" document in FCS documentation (you can download it from Microsoft.

    Good Luck!

     Thanks very much guys!

I took your advice and up-ed the disk space to 30GB, but I can't really go more as it's a virtual server currently on a machine that has only 10GB remaining for the Virtual Server Host Box. But when I installed it this time with the up-ed disk space, it is now saying that 33GB is required. I fear this is going to keep happening if I increase it.

I'm using a one server topology; would you know around about how much disk space I would require for this to run successfully? I read somewhere that it's 100GB, but is that really true?

    Thanks again,

Aha.. is it me being really stupid here, or is it requiring 33GB Free Space, or Total Space on the hard disk? and when I read 100GB, which I'm pretty sure I read on the Forefront Deployment Guide, is that 100GB free space? Sorry, really having a blank/blur day today so I'm kinda missing the obvious here!!

If it says required available disk space X then you need to have X free space on the drive...

As for DB sizing please make sure you take a look at

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb418772.aspx  and the sizes recommended there and do not click next next next before finding out what size you need :)... the default I believe for the reporting db is 1gb if you just click through the wizard which unfortunately is not enough for any scenario period.

I have the simular problem on a win2008 hyper-v machin running SQL 2005.

    From the log.
Warning: Having two or more processors is recommended for the specified component(s).  Recommended processor speed (in MHz): 2850
Warning: More RAM is recommended for the specified component(s).  Recommended RAM (in MB): 2048
Error: More disk space is required for the specified component(s).  Required available disk space on drive  (in MB): 18432

The thing is that the disk have more than 100G free diskspce. I tried adding a new drive D: on my machin. this on has the default size of 126g and i still get this error.

    hey,

Try changing the SQL Database and SQL log file  to another drive,

To change the location for data and log files

    1.   Open SQL Server Management Studio. (On the Start menu, click All Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.)

    2.   In the Connect to Server dialog box, click Connect.

    3.   Right-click the root server name node, and then click Properties.

    4.   In the Server Properties dialog box, under Select a page, click Database Settings.

    5.   In Database default locations, enter the locations you want to use for the data and log files, and then click OK.

    Hope this will help you.

the last post fixed my install! Had to just move the database to a different drive and it worked!
