New/Additional Exchange Server Setup

Hey guys,
Currently we have one working exchange server. My plan is to install a new exchange server at our co-location and move our stores to it. I just setup the new server and I installed Exchange 2007 SP1 (to match our current setup). So Now I have 2 exchange servers in our organization. I installed exchange with the default options and I entered the serial already.
Now I'm about to install the new SSL certificate. After that, will the server be ready for me to transfer exchange stores to it? Or is there additional setup required?
Also, is the SSL even required initially? I ask this because our email.mydomain.com is pointing to our exchange box that currently hosts all of our stores. So I would imagine that email servers would connect to that, and then our server would connect to our second server to access any mailboxes that are necessary. As a result, I would imagine that the SSL certificate is only required if we redirect our email.mydomain.com to the secondary exchange box, correct?
Thanks.

You cannot trasnfer store files, you have to move mailboxes and replicate public folder data between your servers.
this article is for Exchange 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822945 but the steps is very similar except that you use totaly different admin tools.

Sorry about that, I made a mistake with my explanation. I meant transferring mailboxes over. But what about SSL certificate? Is it still required for secured communication in my scenario? I ask this because our email.mydomain.com is pointing to our exchange box that currently hosts all of our stores. Also, with the default install, is exchange ready for me to transfer the stores over?

Your bought certificate should be on the server exposed from Internet through your firewall. so when reconfigure your firewall you have to have the certificate on the new server. If you have a reverseproxy like TMG then certificate is located on TMG and then what happens next is not seen by clients on internet. What happens also depend on configuration on TMG
If you installed CAS,HUB and Mailbox on the new server your're good to go regarding installed software, but you still have to configure other things such as certificate, SMTP connectors, databases, outlook anywhere etc.

Do I have to wait until the secondary exchange server becomes our primary (exposed to the internet) before installing the SSL? Or can I install it now without it affecting anything in a negative way?Your bought certificate should be on the server exposed from Internet through your firewall. so when reconfigure your firewall you have to have the certificate on the new server. Depending on names in cert and URL configured on your servers, but if the new one is configred the same as the old one you're good to go with certificate and change rules in the firewall at any time.
