IE9 has stopped and disappeared, yet I can't uninstall or reinstall

  I usually use Firefox. However most of my family use IE. IE must have had an update that they clicked in last week or two that accepted the IE9 update. They broke my cardinal rule of not clicking accept since they don't understand computers.

  Now IE doesn't work, isn't available, can't uninstall, can't reinstall. If you click on the program IE9 button it just briefly flashes a blank white box screen shows and then disappears. So I went to uninstall it. Went to control panel, view windows updates etc. It doesn't even show as anywhere (yes I scrolled all the way down to microsoft windows and it only showed security updates blah blah). I even got desperate and checked uninstall programs hoping it would be there. Of course it wasn't. It's a ghost on my machine now and won't get out! I went to download and tried to download and install it and it says it won't proceed since I have a more recent IE already on my computer. ARGH!

  Now the reason I am frustrated is that I play Big Fish Games which uses IE as it's browser. You can't access their game manager without IE. Otherwise I would just use Firefox and be done with IE. But there are many ways that IE is the browser for programs etc and so I need to have a working copy on it. NO I don't want to use system restore as it tends to not really work. I have Windows 7 64 bit and I bought this computer only 6 months ago.

  Anyway to exorcise the IE9 ghost without totally screwing up my machine?
