Hello,My wife uses Lync communicator at her office. I use Live messenger with my work email address (not hotmail, msn or Live ID). We used to be able to communicate. When it changed was when got married & her company changed her last name in their exchange server. The odd thing is, this doesnt happen all the time, there are days when we can IM, but then if one of us logs off we get a message "message cannot be delivered to all recipients". We have both deleted & readded one another & tried almost everything else. Any suggestions?

to narrow down the issue. do you mean by one of you log off, and you try to IM each other (means one of you is offline) you get this message . cause if so this is normal behaviour as you leave offline IM from or to Lync User.
else , after the changes happened with your wife's account, did she check with the Lync Admins if her account still enabled for Public IM ??

Based on his feedback the account is still enabled for Public IM, as he says it is working sometimes.
In my opinion, the best way to troubleshoot this would be on the OCS server using the logging tool. I don't think there is a lot you can do on the messenger client side.

I know this is an older post, but perhaps someone looking for an answer now might stumble upon it and get the help they need...
The most important thing is that your SRV records are correct.. There are many DNS hosts that block SRV records so you need to test them using NSLookup.
The procedure is as follows:
At the command prompt:
If it doesn't return an answer and you are sure your SRV records are correct then the DNS host is blocking those records.
Many experience this problem and a good sign is when people manually enter the "sipdir.online.lync.com:443" into the Lync manual server addresses. Obviously if you need to do this there is a problem. Many ISP's will swear up and down the SVR records are correct but take a screen shot of your NSLookup and show them there was no connection made.
Once this is configured you shouldn't have any problems with federation and connecting to live, hotmail, msn users..
Best to All!!!
