    Great Question Jeff!

Currently we do not have plans to support public folders in Exchange Online. But please do file a feature request by clicking the support tab through the admin center (https://admin.microsoftonline.com) and filing a service request with support indicating you would like PF support. The support team will file the request on your behalf and will give you an update in a few weeks once the request has been examined by the product development team.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Richard Rodgers

    Hi all,

I think you can get what you are looking for by assigning a SharePoint folder to your Exchange Folder.

    Process:

In the Admin Portal create a SharePoint Site -----> once created add the users you would like in your BPOS domain ----> in the Sharepoint Folder access the Shared Documents area -----> Select the Actions drop Down ---> then select Connect to Exchange. it will then show up in your outlook in an area called SharePoint Lists. You can do this with as many areas as you like.....

Fell free to contact me directly if you like Jay Magness 714-681-4639

    Hope this Helps,

    Jay

Thanks for the followup Jay, this is great stuff!

This process works great for sharing documents with outlook desktop users - I followed your instructions, and was instantly able to share some test documents with everyone using Outlook.

I had originally intended to share a folder of outlook Note objects, but I can see that having a shared document list like this is some pretty powerful functionality.

I then tried to access this folder through OWA, but wasn't able to get it linked correctly. In OWA, I clicked on the Documents button, and entered https://<mysharepointdomainname>.sharepoint.microsoftonline.com (and variations of this adding the folder name, 'shared documents', etc), but was greeted with "The document or folder that you attempted to access cannot be shown in Outlook Web Access".  Is there a setting for the folder in the Admin Portal I missed, or more specific URL that I need to enter in OWA?

    Thanks

    Jeff

Jay, I also want to thank you.

We used this same tactic to migrate a contact list that was in a client's public folders. They were using it as a sort of Global Address List and had 2,500 contacts in it.

We created a folder in SharePoint, shared it with an instance of outlook that was connected to the on-premise Exchange Server. copies the contacts from the public folder list to the sharepoint shared list and waited for them to finish "syncing" up to SharePoint. Once complete, fired up outlook attached to the new exchange server and re-shared the list.

Users not have all their old contacts back in their address lists and can now even find them via a search in SharePoint. :)

Any followup on this?  I really need to access the sharepoint folders in OWA.

Anyone noticed that when you delete something from the sharepoint link in outlook, things do not sync.  So it is gone in Outlook, but not on the sharepoint.

Are you talking about a SharePoint List that has been synchronized to Outlook?  If so, I believe the list is read only.  You can open documents to edit them, but I don't think you can delete them and have that deletion replicated back up to SharePoint.  I just did a quick test on my account and when I try and delete a document, I get the message: "This SharePoint List is Read-Only in Outlook".
