Is there anyway to have the ribbon controls show up on a publishing page for users with read access? It seems they only show up if the user who have contribute access to the page/library. I have a publishing site where most users have read access to the overall site. But there is a list that has unique permissions where users have contribute rights. If I put the list's webpart on a publishing page the users don't have access to the ribbon tool bar for the list webpart. If I give the users contribute rights to the pages library (or the over site) they have access to the ribbon on the publishing pages (Browse, Page, Publishing, & webpart tools). I don't want the users to be able to edit the pages, just the content in the list webpart.
I hope i'm over looking something really easy here. Thanks ahead of time!

Hi,
I don't understand your problem.
I create a user (User1) with contribute permissions in List 1 (list with exclusive permissions). I put this list in a webpart in a page in Site 1, where User1 only have read permissions.
When User1 click in List1 webpart, ribbon for this webpart works fine (add item, ....) but to another webpart ribbon is grey (read-only permissions).
Be sure your user have contribute permissions in list webpart.

The users have contribute rights to the list and therefore can only contribute to the list itself. What you're doing by adding the list web part to a page they don't have contribute rights to, simply to surface the information. If they don't have contribute rights to the page itself, they shouldn't be able to make any changes to the page and that includes the web parts on it.Paul Turner http://redmanta.co.uk/blog Twitter: @RedMantaUK MCTS:WSS,MOSS,2010 MCITP:2010.

Tomas - The scenario you described works fine on a non publishing page. If you try to perform the same thing on a publishing page, the ribbon doesn't show up if you don't have contribute access.
I'm marking Paul's response as the answer. It's disapointing that the items/list ribbon isn't accessible on a publishing page for users who have access to that list. Thanks for the replies.
