  How do you want to use this Java web service in SharePoint?  You have quite a few options available.  The fact that the web service is built with Java should be of no issue, as long as you're not looking to host it somehow with SharePoint.  SharePoint should have no problem interacting with a Java-based web service and displaying its output.  Here's a few possible ways you can use the web service in SharePoint:

  • Consume and interact with the web service via a web part and display its output on a page.  The first link below is for the previous releases of SharePoint but is still pretty good information.  The second link is for the current releases of SharePoint.

  • Develop custom code to run in SharePoint that consumes the web service.  The link below shows how to consume a web service in Visual Studio.

  • Create an InfoPath form that consumes the web service and publish it to a SharePoint site or Forms Server

  There are probably several other ways you can integrate a web service, regardless of its technology, into SharePoint.  These are just the three that I was able to think of off the top of my head...
