    Hello,

My company has a server with windows 2008R2 server and SQL server 2008R2 installed (both enterprice version). While I am applying  SQL server R2 SP1, I got error  with "SQL_FullText_Adv". I did repare as suggested on this site, but the repaire failed again with errro "The SQL Server feature 'SQL_FullText_Adv' is not in a supported state for repair, as it was never successfully configured. Only features from successful installations can be repaired. To continue, remove the specified SQL Server feature....... ", see detail below.

Can please some share a light? Many thanks,

One solution will be uninstall the fulltext feature then install just this feature back.

    Thanks Ahmed,

Good idea, but I never did uninstall FullText before, should I uninstall from add/remove feature or from SQL SERVER 2008R2 setup?

I just checked the server which has both SQL Full-Text filter Deamon Launcher and SQL server browser running. Should I uninstall both of them or just sql server browser?

    Thanks,

Per summary log the only Fulltext failed so you need to re install it , I don't think you need to uninstall browser.

I couldn't find the full-text feature in either add/uninstall program or SQL server installation center, can you please tell me where I can find this feature?

    Thanks,

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx#Feature

you can run command line install

    setup.exe /Action=Install /Features=FullText

Just make sure that the media you are running from support fulltext installation

OK, I read the link you gave to me. I think it's pretty clear that I cannot just remove one of SQL Server instance features, I have unstall the SQL server instance. I think I need to think about it since we have 20 DBs running on it and it also intergrated with Sharepoint.  I'll let you know the results.

    Thanks a lot

    Hi,

As Ahmed is saying, you can do it this way. But when getting messages like "Only features from successful installations can be repaired" you can try to reset the registry values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance>\ConfigurationState

I have encountered a similar problem when upgrading to SP1 on SQL2008R2 and I had to clear a registry setting before I could continiue to install the update.

Hopes this helps you, please say how it works out!

I ended up to reset the register value. And then SP1 installed smoothly without any problem.

Many many thanks to both of you for great advices.
