Administrator account

Hi there!
We are having an issue with our Vaio (winows 7). It seems that our administrator account has been restricted in some way or that there is another administrator account that does not show in the user accounts.
Currently when we try to 'Make changes to user account', the only main options available are:
- change picture
- change your account name
- and change your account type
However, the only thing that we can do is change the picture. when we try to change the name - to anything, it simply does not change. The current name is 'ANTONELLA'. When we try to change the name to 'Antonella' however, a message displays: 'the specified account name is not valid, because there is already an account with that name.'
We can't even do a disk defragment because it asks for a password from the administrator that we don't have - or that never existed!
There is one other user account that appears to be a standard user account. But nothing can be changed to this account either. It can't be deleted. No new name is vaild - it says that characters /.:, and so on cannot be used but we only tried a different name like: 'Gabby'.
In both accounts we cannot creat a new account too.
Please help!!
Regards,
G Tarrant

The best place to make the types of account changes you are describing is using the Local Users and Groups MMC console rather than the User Accounts applet in Control Panel. You can get to the MMC console by selecting the Advanced tab and clicking Advanced in the Advanced user management section. From there you should be able to add an account or modify account properties. When adding an account, be sure to do so using the (YourComputerName\Administrator) account or an account that has the appropriate permissions.
You don't say which account you are using. Your administrator account, (YourComputerName\Administrator) may be disabled. If so it needs to be enabled before it can be used to make account changes.
