답변됨"Password is invalid" when attempting to connect to a disconnected session using server 2008

Why do I get a password is invalid when I try to connect to a disconnected user session? (Of course the password I am using is correct).

From what I can tel the security log reports the user as having logged on successfully, and then logged off.

I've even tested with the "disconnected user" being a domain administrator and I get this error.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to reconnect to a disconnectd RemoteApp session from TS manager?
If so, that's not working by design, as you can't switch between RemoteApp & Full-Desktop sessions.
(The error message could be better, note is taken).

I tested and found out that if I create a remoteapp for tsadmin.msc that I can then connect the the remote application sessions, but not as a desktop session.

Yes a better error message would have been appreciated :-).

it was one of the three..

please check if the setting in Terminal Server Configuration, RDP Setting -> Network Adapter -> "Maximum connections" allowe setting. - must be over 1.

Also the Session Tad -> Allow reconnection from:

    and

Terminal Server Configuration -> Server Configuration -> Restrict each user to one session.

    Ok I've check these out:

Terminal Server Configuration, RDP Setting -> Network Adapter -> "Maximum connections" -->  This is set to "Unlimited"

The selection for "Allow Reconnection from" is on my 2003 servers, howerver it is not present on my 2008 platform.

I removed the restriction for each user to only have 1 session.

I still get the error. Any other thoughts?

How do I set the "Allow Reconnection from" setting on a 2008 server?

The user does have the "Allow Reconnection from" setting and it is set to "Any client"

    Single Server only, no Farm.

Did you configured the licensing properly? Like
can a client get a license? Does the client get a license?
Are you per Device licensing? Are you trying to connect
on to a normal user session with Admin account?

I'm per user licensing.  The user works fine then disconnects, then I want to connect with my administratrive user.  I'm in Terminal Services Manager when I do this.  I right click on their name, choose connect, supply the password and then get the "password is invalid" response.

    Thanks for working with me!

    Oh I see.
I believe it is by design so. You can only connect to a disconnected users session with his credentials.

    MSFT may correct me.

    MSFT?

P.S: last thing to try is to connect to the server with RDP and try from there. If the result is the same - see above.

    Hi, Ben,

That setting does not apply to RDP, which is why you don't see it in the 2008 UI.

Alex is correct that if you're attempting to connect to another user's session then you will need to provide their credentials. You can use your Administrator credentials to shadow another session (if you've enabled shadowing) but need the session owner's to actually connect.

    Hope this helps,
    Christa

I'm Just back from the holiday weekend.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I am using the user's credentials I want to connect to.

    Hi, Ben,

Are you having this problem with all users you try to connect to or just one? I just attempted to reproduce the problem with the following steps:

    1. Connect with Account1.
    2. Connect to the same server with Account2
    3. Disconnect Account1.
    4. From the Account2 session, right-click on Account1 in TS Manager and choose Connect.
    5. Supply the password when prompted.

At that point, Im in the session and Account2 is disconnected. The only time I see the error message you cite is if I deliberately type the wrong password. Sorry to have to ask you this, but can you double-check that you're not using the Account2 password to connect to an Account1 session and confirm the steps you're following?

    Thanks,
    Christa

    Checked and checked again.

Are you testing on a 2008 platform or 2003?

My 2003 servers work just fine.

Thanks for confirming, Ben. I was using WS08. I'll see if we can find out what's happening here, since following the steps I provided should work.

Thank you for all your efforts.

I'd be willing to let you on the machine since it is a non-production server, if you wanted to poke around.

I just had a thought and tested it.

When I have a "full desktop" session I can connect to it.

When it is a "remoteapp" I cannot.

I'm used to my 2003 Citrix environment where I can connect to "seamless windows" sessions.

Why wouldn't I be able to do the same thing in 2008 for " remoteapp" sessions?

Once again "full desktop" I can connect, "remoteapp" I cannot, I get the "password is invalid".

Thanks for the resource kit link, I ordered it.

Try using the fully qualified user name; eg domain\username. I was getting invalid password errors using just username.
