Hi all, this one is rather odd.

I have a server with 2008 r2 and the hyper V role installed. All works well apart from the following.

I can create multiple VMs with no bother BUT i can only have ONE VM running at a time. If i try to start another VM while another is running i get the following error.

The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state of "VM_NAME"

The CPU does support hardware assisted virtualisation and disable execute bit and both are configured in the BIOS as required.

I must however be missing something else. Can someone please help?

    Thanks

    Hiya,

Check the diskspace on where you VM's are located. Make sure that there is enough free space to start the machines. (It will consume a little more diskspace equal to the amount of memory allocated to the VM)

is that diskspace on the drive I have aside for the VMs or disk space on the VHD for each VM?

    Thanks

i have reduced the amount of RAM for each VM to 256, the physical server has 4GB of RAM with a 300GB hard drive.

This worked with no issues when running vmware

check if the vm's have the physical cd/dvd rom assigned. only one vm can boot with the physical cd. set them to none or an iso

Its drive space for VM location on the host machine.

Its the free space thats interesting. 300GB is easily consumed, even when running with dynamically expanding disks.

The cd/dvd drive was the issue! Thank you very much FZB
