    what will happen if WSUS is down and clients cannot find it over the network? will all clients go to internet to get updates? or they just stop ?

    They will keep trying to contact the WSUS server based on their group policy settings or registry values. Until those are changed they will keep trying to contact the same update server.

    Hi,

    The client will not go to Microsoft Update, it will still try to connect to WSUS server at detection time.

    You have to  edit your group policy to disable using intranet Microsoft Update service location.
