Lync with Office Communicator Server 2007?

Answers

  • Some people have successfully connected the Lync client to OCS 2007 R2, but there seems to be a problem with the Address Book in Lync client not working properly. Officially it is unsupported.

  • Do you guys have any information on this? I'd like to try this out but cannot find any good info on it so far. Still getting an error about incompatible server version.

The Lync 2010 Cient with 2007r2 works so far. Altough it is difficult to add new contacts since there is no adressbook available.

To get the client started (to get it you need to unpack Lync2010 RC) you need to create the following reg Key:
“DisableServerCheck” located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator has to be set to 1

Hope this is the information you are lookin for.

  • Awesome workaround! Thanks a bunch! Contact list got populated, everything seems to be working perfectly.

One addition - I needed to create Communicator key as it did not exist for some reason.

  • you are welcome. I found the  solution even here in the forum, but it was a link to a german site.
I also had to create the key.

To add new contacts, you have to create first a contact in the OL Adressbook. After a little while you find this contact also in communicator. Somehow due to incompatibility the Lync Client has no direct access to the adressbook.

  • Great workaround! Works like charm. Thanks!

One thing though, what do you mean by OL Addressbook to add a new contact? Cheers Harii.

    Many thanks again!

  • I found another way of adding contacts that I think it is better but I only tested it with Outlook 2010 (not sure if you can do this in a lower version).

This is how you do it: You click on the New E-Mail button -> you put the contact you want to add in the TO field -> You hover with the mouse over the name and you should have the Outlook 2010 contact info popup -> you click on the chat icon and the Lync chat window will open. In this window you hover the mouse over the name of the other party and another contact info popup window will open. In this popup you press on "View more options for interacting with this person" (last icon on the right) then go to "Add to Contact List" menu and select the group.

I know it is a bit more complicated but in the end you get the contact in straight away.

  • Hi Razvan,

very nice, you found a much easier way to add the contacts. It works also for me.
Fortunately we are soon moving to Lync Server with (hopefully) full access to the adressbook. ;-)

  • You can also search by using the user's email address instead.  Just type the email address into the contact search field.

  • Can someone help? I am using Microsoft Lync at work but trying to add other individuals that are using Microsoft Communicator 2007. How can I add the contacts from Communicator to Lync?

    Thanks!

  • Hey, probably a stupid question, but how do you create the Communicator Key?
