Polycom CX600 Ringtones

    Question

  • Hi

Is it possible to add new ringtones to the Polycom CX600 device? The current standard ringtones are not popular with our users and we wish to add custom ringtones to the devices so that users have a wider range to choose from.

  • As mentioned, custom ring-tones are not available for Lync Phone Edition devices.  Only the default 8 ring-tones provided in the firmware are available.  Although future Cumulative Updates may include additional tones the ability to load custom media files into the phone is not currently on a feature road map as this would require adding functionality to the phone to import files which does not current exist.

No unfortunately it is not possible to add ringtones to the Lync Phone Edition IP phones.

You can have custom ringtones on the Lync software client

  • This is very sad. There would be no additional functionallity if it we possible to edit the firmware which is sent to updates from the lync server. Replace 1 or more of the tones with your own ring tones. Why would I want to be able to do this, I need louder ringtones the Polycom CX600 is a great phone capable of very loud volume on speaker phone but the ringtones are whispers in a noisy school environment.

I propose a firmware ringtone editor so that before sending out updates to handsets you could alter the ringtones do an increment of the revision number and then push it out. ie. I am running Version 4.0.7577.250 at the moment so if you could find a way to add another minor revision level then I could send out 4.0.7577.250.1 then 4.0.7577.250.2 .... 4.0.7577.250.11 etc.

Hope this might help get this much needed change ON the roadmap.

  • Microsoft is planning on addressing the volume issue in an upcoming update (CU5 in 2012 Q1 from what I hear).

  • Good to hear that. We receive the same feedbacks from most of the Polycom users:

    1) very silent ringtones

    2) lack of useful ringtones (or at least a bigger number of selection to choose from)

But at least wait for CU4 first ;)

  • CU4 just arrived, so lets wait another 3-4 months to have the "better" ringtones.

  • The maximum volume setting has been increased in CU5 (no change in custom tones though)
