Public Lync Server

    Question

  • Can you use the Lync Client to connect to MS public IM service using the normal Windows Live ID as you would using windows communicator or instant messenger

  • The Lync client is only designed to connect to a Lync Server infrastructure, either on-premises or Office 365.  You cannot use the client to log into any other third-party IM service.

    Seems a big hole -  if I can use communicator or IM to message business contacts around the world, but I can't do the same without a Lync Server
