How to change SQL 2008 port in Lync 2010 Front End Server and Lync 2010 Archive Server

    Frage

  • Hello Team,

There is a request in which we need to change the default SQL port number from 1433 to different port number. Hence we need change to 1555. Hosted the application and it is working fine.

Now,  We want to implement the Lync 2010 Front End Server, Lync 2010 Archive Server & Lync 2010 Edge Server with the sql port number 1555.

kindly suggest how to move forward.

  • If you are using dynamic port on SQL , you should beed SQL browser service. I hope , you can configure the same for archiving SQL instance as well. Do you have any firewall between Lync frontend and SQL backend ? If so, you should allow required ports for communication. Also recommded to disable windows firewall on Lync frontend server.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

You can use the customized SQL server port for Lync server, but the default port 1433 is still strong recommended. Please do not change it if you don't have to do it.

  • You can install the SQL database using Lync cmdlet , but you wouldn't be able to mention the custom port. Here is the cmdlet ;http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg399044.aspx

    Thanks

  • I have tried to install the lync server 2010 using custom port ...but while running the inital configuration store the SQL database like rtc, rtccab.. are getting locally on the lync server itself. i can see them in C:\SQL folder...but after that install the server component i see these database are also got updated in our sql server.

The setup  need to have high availability on the server level. We have two server hosted for lync front end and if Initail configuration store sits in first lync server then if the first server fails how it will get switch over to the second server...

    Need your help....
