VBA-containing Excel 2003 workbooks won't show content in newly installed Excel 2010

    Question

  • I have just installed Microsoft office Home and Student 2010 on a new Windows 7 machine. I have several programs in Excel 2003 and Excel 2000 that contain VBA. When I try to open them, they open, the expected material appears in the formula bar, but the spread sheet is solid grey.  Nothing else.  I have enabled macros and have added the D-drive, which contains my work, as a trusted source in the trust center but the problem persists. Using  Alt-f11 I get the VB editor to open and running subs that should cause user forms to show makes them pop, but the body of the spread sheet is solid grey.

If I save the file as a macro-enabled worksheet, the non-visibility of the body of the spread sheet persists, but the file size is less than half what is was previously, so something is apparently missing

How can I fix this? What an unnecessary nuisance Microsoft has made of this.
