Office 2010 KMS activation key.

    Question

  • Hi all,

I'll keep this brief, as I didn't realise I'd posted in what looks to be a consumer Office forum (found here http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeinstall/thread/dc8649b7-7144-418c-9c9c-db3060bd4552).

I'm chasing two things - the second being dependant upon the first:

    1. Can a MAK-activated installation of Office 2010 be reverted back to the KMS key - as can be done with Windows?
    2. What is the Office 2010 KMS key? (Given the documentation states it's the same key for all versions)

Some people went off on their own and bought copies before we had our university campus agreement in place, and what I'm hoping to achieve is converting the existing installations over to KMS registrations. While there's copious amounts of information stating that the KMS client activation key is included with Office 2010, I'm unable to find anything addressing the post installation requirement of how one can switch the activation mode from MAK back to KMS.

    Cheers,
    Lain

  • Hi Lain,

1.) Yes, you can revert a MAK key back to a KMS client key.  Please see the KMS client keys below.  You may use the UI directly, the ospp.vbs script, or VAMT 2.0 to change the keys.

2.) The Office KMS host key (that you install on the KMS host) can activate all Office 2010 KMS clients, including ProPlus, Standard, Visio, and Project.  You don't need different classes of KMS host keys to activate different Office products.

All Office KMS clients are pre-installed with the KMS client key, in the same way as Windows.  Different products have different KMS client keys, as shown in the link above.

  • Thanks Ted. Those keys are precisely what I was looking for, but for the life of me couldn't find.
