Symbols in Word 2010

    Question

  • In Word 2010, we created a legal "symbols" toolbar.  What is the best way to simulate that in Word 2010.  Is there a way to set the "recently used" symbol display initially?  Where are recent symbols stored?

  • Where did you create the legal symbols toolbar? In the default template Normal.dot?

Recently used symbols are stored in the Windows registry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General\SymbolMRU. Unfortunately, this is a binary entry, so it's not easily readable:

  • Did you mean "In Word 2003 (or 2002 or 2000), we created a legal "symbols" toolbar"?

Such a custom toolbar should still work in Word 2010 - it should be displayed in the Add-Ins tab of the ribbon.

  • How do I transport it over to 2010?  Still would like to know where the recently used list of symbols is stored.
