Word 2007 Wont Open/start!! Help!!

    Question

  • Hello.

I have Microsoft Windows 7 and have a research paper to write and can never get a computer at the library!! Please HELP!!

I cant open my word 2007program. When I try to open it from start, the task bar or from the office applications, a black/red window appears for just a second and then disappears. It also says something in the window ribbon but disappears too quickly. Never had this problem b4. Excel opens. The files from my flash drive wont.

I have tried restarting the computer and the office fix it website. I have also tried Run then entering winword/safe. I read that from another post.

Additionally, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 152, AMD. Originally had windows Vista.

  • Hi,

I think it's related to problems with the Word settings in the registry.

One option would be fixxing the registry settings for Word 2007.

    1) Press "Windows" + "R" keys, type "Regedit" and press Enter

    2) Expand the following hives in this sequence:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER>>SOFTWARE>>MICROSOFT>>OFFICE>>12.0

    3) Inside 12.0 rename  Word  to  Word.old  with the right click of the mouse

    4) Close Regedit and try to use Word as you want, should be enough.

The last but not the least: Make sure your PC is virus free.

The command you need definitely isn't winword/safe. It's

       winword  /a

with a space before the slash.

  • Seems like there is a registry problem probably that is stopping word to open. If you have the CD for Office than uninstall it and then install it back thats the first option i will prefer or else go to Add/Remove and choose office 2010 and then click on remove and it will prompt you wheater you want to modify, repair or remove so select repair and see if it gives problem?
