Compatibility pack Service Pack 2 fails to install

    Question

  • Hello,

I have a Windows XP SP3 and use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. KB953331 or Compatibility Pack SP2 for MSO2007 (I'm using MSO2003) has repeatedly failed to install, auto or manual. I looked at the Technet solution and it led me to look at the %Temp% files. I don't understand it seems there are a lot of error codes and seems everything in the list is here. I don't get it. i have the opatchinstall(1).log file but seems it wont fit here. If needed I could attach it but how?

  • Hi,

Please first check if Office 2003 Service Pack 3 is installed. You can check it from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. If not, please download and install it from here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e25b7049-3e13-433b-b9d2-5e3c1132f206

Second, please check if Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats is installed. If not, please download from the link below and install it:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466

After this, please download and install Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 2 (SP2) again:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4f97ab2f-1f7d-49a3-9123-7ca3e703b916

Can we install it at this time? If you encounter any errors, please let me know.

Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

Thanks for responding. Both MSO 2003 SP3 and MSO Compatibility Pack are installed. Only KB953331 or MSO Compatibility pack SP2 has failed to install.

  • Hi,

Try to uninstall MSO Compatibility Pack from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Then install it again, and install the update.

If any error occurs, please let me know.

    Regards,

  • Hello,

In Add/Remove it says the Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 "This update cannot be removed". Other KBs under Compatibility Pack are: 969613,972581,951550,969618,982312 and 982331. They can all be removed. I just wioder cz in my Laptop only 982312 and 982331 are updates for the Compatibility Pack. Why is it in this PC there are many updates while in the Laptop there are only two. (By the way the laptop has XP Home while this PC has XP Pro-maybe thats why the diffrence?). So I can't Add/Remove the MSO Comp Pack SP1. What now?
