Office 2010 deployment producing 1712 errors.

    Question

  • With the last deployment of Office 2010 to our test group we had 14 machines report an error 1712 and failed install 2010.  Digging through the installer logs I came across a whole series of the following with different Transform IDs.

MSI(INFO): 'DEBUG: Error 2746:  Transform 1TTo1U invalid for package C:\WINNT\Installer\1013a8.msi. Expected product {901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}, found product {90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}.'

    MSI(INFO): '1: 2746 2: 1TTo1U 3: C:\WINNT\Installer\1013a8.msi 4: {901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} 5: {90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} '

    The rollback attempt throws...

MSI(ERROR): 'Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found.  Restoration will not be possible.'

What appears to be happening is the installer is expecting Office 2003sp2 and finding 2003sp3, then erring out.  Has anyone seen this?

To date we have been re-pushing the install with some success, but it is time consuming and labor intensive.

  • The 1712 error machines are running Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6001.22159.

All but one of the machines that failed have been manually remediated by re-pushing the package or with hands on remediation.  The machine that is still posting 1712 has failed remediation multiple times.  I have one more small deployment to 30 machines, and then we pause for testing.  I have requested that the next machine that generates a 1712 error not be remediated until I can snap an image to test in the lab.
