"The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified" - Is not popping up in some Outlook Xp & 2003 clients

    Question

  • Outlook 2003 & XP does not popping up the below message in some PC's "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified."

We are using SMTP server with a security certificate enabled. but some of my outlook XP & 2003 client PC's not always popping the message to select to "Yes" Unless it select as yes the email will not go and stuck in the out box.

Some times its even popup first time when outlook starts and then again when the PC restarted it is not popping up when user tries to send an email.

This is behaving very unpredictable way. Outlook 2007 & 2010 clients are OK.

Any advice how to fix this issue

  • Hi Roshan,

    Thanks for posting here.

I researched on this issue and it’s appears that this issue may related to the server.
May I know what’s is the mail server and what protocol (Exchange, POP or IMAP) is used for these account in Outlook.

I look forward to your reply.

  • Hi Sunil,

    We have the same problem.

We are using Exchange 2010, the certificate is a valid godaddy certificate.  And it works perfect for our owa and exchange outlook clients.

But alot of our workers are using pop3 over SSL, and not owa.  They get this warning also.
It worked before, and the certificate is valid, is there a way to check what certificate he tries to use?

  • Ok I solved it already, I taught it was more difficult.

I created a pop account in MS outlook, and then he showed me the certificate.
This was not a valid certificate, it was a self signed certificate.  So I went to exchange 2010, to the server configuration, and I looked to the exchange certificates.  I don't know what happens, but some self signed certificates were activated with different services on it (pop,smtp,...).  (it worked perfect for a year).

I removed these self signed certificates, and voila problem solved.
