2003 Microsoft Outlook setup with Hotmail account

    Question

  • How can I set up my Microsoft Outlook with my Hotmail account? I have already filled out the fields asking for email, password, & user name. However, it has not downloaded the whole hotmail account and will not let me send emails.

  • Hello,  I as far as I know.  I am using MAPI(default).   When I go into my email accounts, there is only one email.  type says MAPI.   I then click on change and there are no settings to change like the POP3 accounts.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Yes, I believe that I have.  In outlook. the following tabs are file, edit, view, go, tools, actions, OUTLOOK CONNECTOR, help.  Am I supposed to have an upgraded hotmail account?  Is the upgraded hotmail account free?  Also,  I getting internet with a satelite dish.  Will the lag cause problems?

  • I tried a pop3 to the same account, however I was having problems with that as well.  So I deleted it because it wants to start over every time to download 14,000 messages 800MB.  I have limited bandwidth usage limit.  The other MAPI email account constantly says 0 of 2 tasks: sending and receiving - Sending and Downloading Messages. Progress always says 47% after hours of continuous trials.  Receiving - Processing.

Should I go back to the POP3 account?

The link you sent me is not English.

  • OK, this errro description is better. Have you checkt the taskmanager or Pereformance monitor for network traffic? Perhaps it only tanks a long time for transferring the 800 MB Mailbox from hotmail to you client PC.

  • What would you like me to try?  Setup the POP3 account again and let it download 800MB?  Is it really downloading every message over again?  or is it just picking up the ones it did not download yet?

After it downloads every message, will it then allow me to send a message?  The test emails went through, just not my personal replies were sent.  They sat in the outbox.

    Thank you

  • I originally had 50,000 emails in my inbox in hotmail.  I deleted most of the junk and I am left with about 11,000.  The MAPI account had downloaded 12,753 emails.  The POP3 downloaded 2,495.

  • I think MAPI or IMAP would be the better choice.Using POP was only a test if your account is working. I think you should be patient. Outlook is downloading the whole mailbox. But i think it takes some time, because you have got a big mailbox with huge mails.
