Recording Macros - Word 2010

    Question

  • Group,

I develop many macros within WORD, many are initiated using the "record macro" feature and then enhancing from there.  I am upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2010 and I have found the developer tab, found the  VBA editor, and I'm saving into the proper templates, but I find that the "recording macro" feature seems to act differently.  I've tested several "record" functions, and when I vew my recording, it comes up blank.  Is it possible that when I am turning on the "record macro" and then switch to different tabs, that the recorder quits recording??  An example would be:

    1. record macro turned on
    2. mailings
    3. edit recipients
    4. select data source - EDIT
    5. new entry
    6. OK
    7. update list - YES
    8. OK
    9. stop recording

when I vew my macro, I have nothing in the code.  I've done this with several tests, not all coming from the "mailings" tab, and still nothing.  Right now, my macro security is set to "enable all" - hmmm....not the safest I know, probably need to be working on that as well.  I thought possibly a security setting would be preventing me from recording code, but that can't be the problem with a low setting such as that.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

  • The issue is probably that some mouse actions are not recorded.   Right click on the status bar at the bottom of the Word window and check the box for "Macro recording" so that you can start the macro recorder when the necessary ribbon tab is the active tab and you will not then have to use the mouse to select the tab while recording the macro.

    Hope this helps.
