Outlook 2007 - Emails stuck in the Outbox in both Windows 7 and XP

    Question

  • Hello everyone,

We are having an issue with Outlook 2007.  We have seen this issue happen on two completely different machines, one with XP and one with 7.  This issue just started happening for the person with Windows 7, about a month ago.  The Windows XP person has had this problem for about 3 days.  We don’t  believe it to be an Exchange issue yet, as the user's can use OWA with no problems.

Problem:  User attempts to send an email to a person that they have sent an email to before.  They are greeted with a send/receive error of 80070057.  It is worth it to note that all of the emails that fail to go through, end up looking like this:    'Example@example.com'    With single quotes around the name.

What we have tried so far:

    • ·         New profile (CP>Mail>Remove bad one, setup new one)
    • ·         SCANPST/SCANOST (all ost/pst files in the user's profile, comes up with errors, but repairs them)
    • ·         Outlook.exe /safe (disable addons)
    • ·         Outlook.exe /cleanprofile
    • ·         Removing all additional (read local) address books
    • ·         Remove the ".NK2" file (the address autocomplete file)
    • ·         Verifying that the address being emailed are SMTP and not EX
    • ·         Uninstalling Outlook 2007, removing all foders from Appdata, reinstalling.

The kicker is that a combination of the above allows it to work for anywhere from a couple of hours to a day.  However, the next day, the problem is back.  Any assistance would be welcomed.

  • Email comes into the inbox without quotes  e.g.  account@domain.com  Selecting Outlook's  reply to creates a quoted email address   e.g.  'account@domain.com'   this quoted email address is a commented string and not processed as email, thus getting stuck in the outbox.   if it were  'email name'   account@domain.com      this is OK but the emailaddress is not to quoted.

This is an outlook bug, undocumented feature or impossible to find setting.    MS Support please address this.

  • Hi,

Put Outlook in offline mode, To change the Work Offline command:

On the File menu, click Work Offline.

On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive, and then click the name of the account from which you want to send the message.

Now restart Outlook and see if you can delete it. Don’t forget to put Outlook back On-line again.

    Sincerely,

    Harry

  • Not really the problem....  I can delete the email from Outlook all day long.  It wont send at all.  As such, the offline, online switch you recommended will not work.
