Office Home and Business 2013 Keeps Crashing

    Question

  • I have a major problem with Microsoft Office for Home and Business 2013 because it keeps crashing.  I
bought it along with a new Toshiba laptop Model S855 S5165  with Windows 8 (64 bit) in it, downloaded
Office 2013 from the Microsoft site using the product key and the Office 2013
program kept crashing on me.   I kept uninstalling and reinstalling
Office—it was driving me crazy.   After researching about Office 2013
crashing, I deleted some Windows 8 files…I believe Visual
files.  Anyway I was able to get Office reinstalled and certain of its
programs working such as Outlook mail, PowerPoint, Excel, but not Word.  Word
still wants to crash when I attempt to run it.   When it crashes it
takes down the other programs in Office.   What is the fix for this Office 2013 crashing problem?

  • Hi,

    Check the known issue here:

Blank UI or video driver crash

You might see blank UI or the UI disappears when hover in Office programs. Or your video driver might crash or hang.

Workaround    Try to update your video card driver and/or click File > Options > Advanced > Display, and then check the Disable Video Hardware acceleration box.

If you don’t see this box, you can set the regkey DisableHardwareAcceleration = 1 in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Graphics

And I would suggest to follow the Word startup troubleshooting in the article below to see if it can help:
