Excel 2010 Pivot Table Field List will not display

    Question

  • On one user's PC, Excel 2010 on Windows 7

Any new or existing pivot table will not display a Field List. the ribbon button when clicked does not show colour, right click on the pivot table to select Show Field List does not work either.

I have also tried using the Immediate window in VBA. Typed

    ActiveWorkbook.ShowPivotTableFieldList =True

    and then pressed Enter

    Still not displaying Field List.

I have also tried minimising, maximising and moving the worksheet around - no luck.

In Safe Mode the field list will show.

I have tried re-installing and repairing the installation. No luck.

    Any suggestions?

  • No hidden, or minimised Field List. the button doesn't even retain it's 'clicked' look when pressed.

    Also no Excel14.xlb file present.

As other users could log onto the computer and use pivot tables with field list showing ok, we determined that some Windows, or Office corruption must have occurred.

Problem solved by resetting the Windows 7 profile.

  • Please Check if the filed list moved off screen or hidden on bottom of the workbook.
If no, you may have a corrupt Excel14.xlb which is located in: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel. It might be the root of the pivot table field list to disappear.
Before we delete it,  make sure excel14.xlb doesn’t exist in XLSTART File, if so, just remove it and the problem would go away.
After deleting the file. Excel would recreate it at the next time. But you would lose any customized settings you have made for Excel.

If above suggestion doesn’t bring any help, you can post a sample file to this site as the screenshot(make sure it doesn’t contain confidential information).
