Office Communicator 2007 R2 doesn't work with 64 bit Outlook 2010

    Question

  • I am facing an issue with getting OC2007R2 to work with Outlook 2010 (64-bit). I am unable to get the Properties dialog for any of my contacts (right-click a contact -> Properties); this option is grayed out.

    Versions numbers:

    • OC2007R2 - 3.5.6907.196
    • Outlook 2010 (64-bit) - 14.0.4760.1000

    COM Add-in info:
Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Add-in -> Load Behavior: Not loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM add-in.
If I try to manually add ocoffice.dll as an add-in from the Communicator install location, I get this error: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office Communicator\ocoffice.dll' is not a valid Office add-in.'

    Is this a known issue for Outlook 2010 64-bit? Is there a 64-bit add-in available for OC2007R2?

Answers

  • Yes, there are known issues with OCS integrating with Outlook 64-bit.  Read this MS KB:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-US%3b2028836

    Snippet from KB:

Also, the following features do not work:

    • Conversation History Integration
    • Search for Personal Outlook Contacts in Office Communicator
    • Search and, in Outlook, Search by using Office Communicator in the integration environment
    • Missed IM and Call Notification

Also, when you use Office Communicator 2007 R2 to connect to an x64 edition of Outlook, the following features do not work:

    • Right-click Contact properties to view Outlook properties
    • Right-click a contact to find previous conversations
    • Right-click to schedule a meeting or to send an e-mail message
