Where are Outlook Contacts stored?

    Question

  • On my Vista PC I used to find the Outlook Contacts (.pst) in C:\user\"myname"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst .
Now I have Windows 7 and Office 2010 beta and can not find them anymore at the above path.
I want to store them at an external backup drive and need to find them somewhere.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Try C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Outlook Files

  • Thanks a Million! You're the greatest!
They are now visible without activating "show hidden files", right?

Again many, many thanks for your help and
Happy New Year to you and yours

  • My contact file (as well as all the others) are still being stored in the old location. Is there anyway to force them to move to the new location?

  • You can just move them.

My experience was that the existing mail profile would not work with the relocated pst file and could not be modified to store messages in the transferred pst. Deleting and recreating the mail profile resolved the problem.

  • Yes, they are visible as user documents - as they should be.

  • It should work for pop3, if you move and reconnect the pst, but if its not done correctly it can break the address book.

Close outlook, move the pst, repoint the profile to the new location before opening outlook (use control panel, mail). The old method of opening outlook and letting it complain that it can't find the pst often breaks the address book.  See http://www.slipstick.com/config/moveimap.asp - this method will work for the pst files used all account types.

  • Following your procedure I was able to easily move my outlook data files. The only problem I'm having is that instead of showing the account name in the left hand column of outlook it's showing the name of the data file for each account. How can I rename these? Go into the account settings doesn't help.
