Highlighting woes

    Question

  • Hi,

I have Project 2010 Standard with SP1.  My issue is when I highlight lines with yellow for example, other lines down the project are highlighted with yellow or different color that I previously did not highlight. I did a highlighting search on this forum and checked the answers but none seem to work for me.  Any suggestions??

I can think of at least two ways that highlighting would show up on its own with different colors:

    1.  You have a Highlight Filter currently applied.  Click the View tab to display the View ribbon.  In the Data section of the View ribbon, click the Highlight pick list and select the [No Filter] item.

    2.  You have Text Styles formatted to show highlighted tasks automatically.  Before you check this, closely examine the tasks highlighted in yellow or other colors.  Take note of what types of tasks they are, such as regular tasks, critical tasks, milestone tasks, summary tasks, etc.  Click the Format tab to display the Format ribbon.  In the Format section of the Format ribbon, click the Text Styles button.  In the Text Styles dialog, click the Item to Change pick list and select the first type of task that has highlighting applied to it, such as Critical Tasks for example.  Click the Background Color pick list and select the Automatic item on the list.  Continue clicking the Item to Change pick list and selecting every type of task where you see highlighting applied.  Click the OK button when finished.

Please let us know if this helps.

  • Hi Dale,

    1. Yes, but do you mean Highlight: [No Highlight] instead of [No Filter].

    2. I have dones these as suggested but I noticed that when the Background Pattern is changed to white, if I highlight it to yellow, it just stays white.  The background color is Automatic and also Color is Automatic.  What if the Item to Change in Text Styles is missing for example Progress.  Is there another way to add Progress to this list.

  • Hi,

I'm afraid you cannot add styles to Text Styles - you can nly use those present.

Regarding #1, yes, I mean [No Highlight].

Regarding #2, my goal was for you to reset the Text Styles back to their default values.  Are you saying that you had set up Text Styles to apply cell background formatting?  If so, which items were formatted?  And no, you cannot add Progress to the list of items to format using Text Styles.
