How do I upload my project data from excel to Project Server 2010

    Question

  • I have connect to my Project Server using Project and opened the workbook and followed the wizard.

I run into two problems with this approach. First it only lets me select Task, Resources and Assignments but not Project data. Second it does not show my custom fields in the map options.

Anyone have any help for me?

The Import/Export Wizard in Microsoft Project 2010 maps only to Task, Resource, and Assignment data in an Excel workbook.  As you now know, it cannot map to Project data.  Furthermore, it maps only to local fields and not to enterprise fields.  This means that after you import the Excel workbook, you will need to finish the process manually by setting project-related information in the Project Information dialog, including specifying custom enterprise Project fields.  Hope this helps.

No, you can import the projects from Excel, but you will have to specify Project information manually.  Hope this helps.

  • If you just want to get Project data into Project Server 2010, you could try to export for Excel to a SharePoint List. Then use the Bulk Import Tool from the Project Server 2010 Solution Starters to import them. Then possibly use the Excel import method to get task, resource, and assignment data. I haven't tried it but it sounds like it should work. The URL for the Solution Starters is at http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/P2010SolutionStarter.

  • I was just about to make a reply about that!

I am hoping to get that deployed soon and give it a test. It seems like it should work.
