Bulk Import of Users in Project Server 2010

    Question

  • Hello,

I would like to import a big number of users in Project Server 2010, but only as users, not as resources (not to use the "User can be assigned as a resource" option).

Could you please help me figuring out how to do it exactly.

    Thanks a lot,

  • hi julia,

there are two ways to Import user

First directly from AD,create a group in AD and synchronize.

Second Create a excel sheet with Resource Name and other information(email, window Id,Skill etc)if requred and Copy that sheet

to resource Center->Open (which opens MSp resource sheet)->paste.

If the user has window account mentioned in Excel sheet then they will be added as user .

Plz let me if it helps.

  • Hi Julia,

First you need to create a user group in AD which you want to import in project server 2010.

I think above step you might already have done that.

Then create Security group in project server 2010.

Then follow steps mentioned in below article under following section "Configure Security group synchronization" to synchronize all users from AD group to project server security group.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg750243.aspx

One thing which I have forget previously, by this way users would have access to PWA data based on security group permission but can not be able to assign on tasks.

    Hope this may help you

  • My comment to this is to use a project plan file, which gives you greater flexibility and does not allow bad character data that might slip through using Excel as a basis.

  • We have a similar requirement except that these added users should automatically be assigned to 2 custom project server security groups  as well(e.g ABC Project Managers, ABC Team Members). Is there a way to implement this additional part as well? Thanks.

  • This would require scripting, probably possible with STSADM.
