  • Anuj,

    • Yes, Timesheet Managers can approve timesheets, independently of the Status Managers Approval ( if the check box you mention is not enabled).
    • Timesheets are mainly used to keep track of billable/non billable or project/admin time hours, mainly to be able to use the information for connecting to other billing systems (or at least supply the data). The Timesheets are more controlled and reliable source of information in that context. Status Updates are mainly to keep the project progress updated.
    • I am not sure of what you mean by "Task Status Manager Approval Field". Could you please elaborate.

In Summary, it will boil down to the process you are wanting to use. The main reason people use the Timesheet Line Approval flag is to avoid confusion. For example, a Timesheet could get approved but then the PM could decide that a task update needs to be rejected. This creates a discrepancy between timesheet data and task data. So if your process mandates no discrepancy, then you should select that check box.

For you r question: How to hold back timesheet approval until all task updates are approved??

If you are using the SEM, Please see imesheet settings & default section in PWA server settings, You have option "Require line approval before timesheet approval "which specifies that each line must be approved before the whole timesheet can be approved. If you only want to approve whole timesheets (no line-by-line approval), select Disable the option.

    Hope that helps

  • hi amit, thanx for your response,

i have one doubt,if i enable task status manager approval but do not select that check box"Require line approval before timesheet approval",then in that case, will time sheet manager be able to approve time sheet without status manager approval,or status manger has to first approve status updates, only then timesheet manager can approve timeshhet??

  • Hi Anuj,

They should be but I have not tested it. Since disabling the option, will not check for any line item which is approved or not, Timesheet Manager should be able to approve.
Would suggest to test the same on Testbox & validate.

    Hope that helps.

  • That's a real good question Anuj. Here is what I can come up with as an answer:

    • With SEM enabled, the Timesheet line updates will always go to the PM for approval as status updates. You can make them "required" or not, at that point.
    • Without SEM, you can disable task updates going to the status manager, and have timesheets be stand alone data collection items. Otherwise, you can enable task updates approval, and thsi will send the updates to the Status Manager for approval.
