RDS/RDP server gets hammered occassionally, but by who?

    Pergunta

  • Hyper-V 2012 with CSV on a Dell Equalogic

Windows 2008 R2 server VM with RDS role installed

Clients are 80 WyseOS thin clients and maybe 10 Windows 7

For the most part, my setup works perfectly. Occassionally though, calls will start coming in all of a sudden complaining that the thin clients are not responding. When this happens, i login to the server and check resmon, the CPU is always pegged high and network stats are maxed out as well. However, in Resmon, I cant seem to find a way to identify which users are causing this. What methods do admins use to easily determine which processes are hogging cpu/network and which users own them?

    thanks in advance!!

  • Hi

Have you tried opening the task manager when loging on as administrator and then select the Processes tab. There make sure that 'show processes from all users' is selected and then click on cpu to sort all processes from high to low on cpu usage.

  • That will work too. I guess I thought there might be a way to do something similar in resmon or maybe remotely using perfmon from my own computer. thanks though, I'll be using that!!

  • Server 2012 RDS Fair Share cpu features that might help to prevent a user using to much cpu resources:

You might consider Server 2012 RDS and this feature if your users have apps that can cause high cpu usage.
