I've connected my xbox to my win 7 7100 machine as an extender.  The recorded TV shows up fine..including my old shows recorded under Vista.  However, none of the other libraries show up.  No pictures, videos, music.  If I look at them on the PC, they have all the files there.

I don't think I need to share the folders, I've tried adding them in the library at the extender level...but this just seems so odd.

No, its the files on the regular PC with MCE and Windows 7.

I've solved the issue by just redoing the setup of the extender.  I got a new code and relinked the xbox to my pc and the files showed up this time.

It may have occurred the first time because I hadn't scanned the libraries completely or had Windows Media player build its library.  Either way, its fine now.

Windows Media Player on the PC has a fully built index of all the media on my PC and the libraries.  I even had the program running on the PC when I started the Xbox as an MCE extender.

I will note that when the extender is running, on my PC a new user is shown to have read/write capabilities:

The tooltip also shows the name: "Ben-PC/mcx1-Ben-PC" which I have to assume is the Media Center Xtender.

In case your library is in a remote location e.g. a NAS, the MCX1 account will not have access to the NAS. Any media on the NAS will not be available. On my extender (linksys DMA2100) when adding media, there is the possibility to connect to "another location" where you can provide location, username and password for your NAS.
